Mexican National Escapes Quarantine Center in Orange Walk; Later Captured

The Mexican man who ran out of the quarantine facility in Orange Walk Town has been captured. Twenty-six-year-old Francisco Hernandez was captured on a feeder road between the villages of San Antonio and Santa Cruz, a few miles away from the border with Mexico.  Hernandez escaped this morning from the Multi-Purpose Complex. He did so by removing aluminum louvers from the bathroom window and squeezing himself through before running out of the compound. A manhunt was launched and he was later captured. Fortunately, from what we have been told, samples taken from him tested negative for the novel coronavirus earlier this week. This is another case of another border jumper escaping another quarantine facility. A frustrated Commissioner of Police this afternoon told the media that these situations are a pain but the ministry has devised a plan to deal with the recurrent problem.

“It is a pain in the butt if I any use that term. It can be frustrating but I heard you ask the question to Mister Romero earlier as to whether the Mexican will be charted for escaping the quarantine. The regulations did provide for it to be an offence one fails to comply with quarantine requirements. So if it is that you escape from quarantine center then it is tantamount to not complying with quarantine requirements. So in addition to escaping the quarantine center he will be charged with failure to comply with quarantine requirements. I am hoping that the solution we have discussed with the minister to the problem when that is done that we are going to see a stop to this.”
