Lord Ashcroft COVID-19 Relief Fund Issues Cheque to Customs Department

The Philip Goldson Airport is set to reopen on August fifteenth; as such a number of safety measures and protocols are being put in place to get the P.G.I.A. safe for travellers and employees. Government is getting two x-ray machines to be used by the Belize Customs and Excise Department. The machines will scan incoming luggage thereby minimizing human contact and baggage handling.  The machines are being acquired with the financial support of the Lord Ashcroft COVID-19 Relief Fund. Earlier today, the Chairman of Fund, Lyndon Guiseppe handed over a cheque of two hundred and fourteen thousand dollars to Colin Griffith, the Comptroller of the Customs Department. The funding will also cover installation and training for the operators of the x-ray machines which will be installed at the P.G.I.A. in time for the reopening of the airport.  On presentation of the cheque, Griffith noted that the x-ray machines will expedite the process of baggage clearance and also ensure the safety of Customs personnel.  The fund of ten million dollars has been assisting the government efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
