Hotels Are Investing for Reopening!

Ted Tejada

So, as you heard from Tejada, the accommodations sector is implementing a series of protocols that have been developed.  As General Manager of the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza, he shared what they’ve done at the Biltmore to prioritize health and safety.  They are also making a number of other investments to step up their COVID-19 safety measures for the reopening.

Ted Tejada, President, Belize Hotel Association

“We have gotten the temperature gun so that we can measure the temperature of guests coming in. Actually, this morning we were looking at one that is wireless so that no one has to be measuring but the individual will have to stand in front of the camera that the temperature will be measured and it will be communicated to someone behind a screen that will be able to see when the guest is coming in the temperatures that we are getting from the individuals. We have also put sneeze guards at the front desk. We have put the markers at the front desk. We have now received all the chemicals that we are using in all the rooms for the cleanliness. We are now training our staff. After someone has stayed ina room, if we can maintain that room for three days without using it because that is the lifetime of the virus on many surfaces. So, now we are going into the training phase to train our employees from now that this is going to be the new norm when the international airport is open.  What we as individuals have to do, we need to prepare ourselves. We need to make sure that we are reading the materials and training our employees and implementing the procedures necessary to mitigate it. Yes, there is a lot of division among all of us concerning this topic and they need to know that we are taking every precaution. We have been pressing and working with government –as we told them yesterday, what do they need us to help them train these small hotels in order to get them prepared for this? As you know tourism contributes forty percent of the G.D.P. of this country, so we are ready as a country to make this happen.”
