Pictures Obtained by News 5 Shows Women and Minor in Detained Group

News Five has received exclusive pictures of the fifteen persons who have been arrested by way of an order from the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams. The pictures obtained by News Fives show the two police officers and three B.D.F. soldiers at the site where they were first detained. The group of persons was briefly questioned by Coast Guard officers after they were spotted in the Santa Martha Area at around three o’clock in the morning last Sunday. Among the group were a woman and a male minor. The group told the coast guard officers that they were out fishing in a known fishing area and had an amount of fish to back up their story. However, the area is also known as a drug plane landing site which is why ComPol Williams ordered that the group be re-detained and interviewed.  On Wednesday, Williams told the press that during the time that the group was detained, law enforcement officers here were tracking a drug plane in the area. The plane never landed in Belize. News Five has been informed that the plane landed across the border in Guatemala.

“When these men were detained or prior to that did the Police Department receive any information that any drug plane was flying over Belize or that area?”

“On that night in question yes we were monitoring two tracks that were coming in. We had a team of coast guard officers deployed to the area because you know it is close to the sea. It was that team of coast guard that made the detention.”

“Is it frustrating to your Sir that the men were released by the Coast Guard officers?”

Chester Williams

“Of course it is. I would have wished that we were contacted first and if they could have find out from us if we had any interest in the individuals before releasing them but it is water under the bridge.”
