The Work of the Welcome Resource Center

Aimee Jex

The Welcome Resource Center is also an initiative that involves the participation of the Mental Health Association.  Jex explains the work of the W.R.C., as well as the need for public assistance in providing clothing and other attire for the homeless.

Aimee Jex, President, Mental Health Association

“We at the Mental Health Association, we have established the Welcome Resource Center as a direct services provider through the Mental Health Association.  So the Welcome Resource Center has its own board, it’s a separate body but it comes under the umbrella of the Mental Health Association.  A big part of our fundraising and advocacy goes towards the Welcome Resource Center and we work very closely together.  Several of the board members of the Welcome Resource Center have also served under the Mental Health Association, so it is something that we work closely together.  The Welcome Resource Center is a drop-in center at the corners of Vernon and Tibruce streets and they serve the homeless population within Belize City.  It was established hopefully as a pilot project that would then, as we proceed, they will go and develop other similar projects throughout the country.  As I mentioned, we serve the homeless population and people who don’t have homes, specifically those with mental health concerns.”
