2,043 Tests Conducted; More Results to Come!

The Central Medical Lab is currently processing a number of samples from persons who returned to the country in the past couple days. Among those samples are four persons who were screened with fever at the P.G.I.A. when they returned to the country last Friday.  But while we await those results, on Monday, the latest positive case, patient number twenty-three, was confirmed as one of the repatriates who returned on the flight on Friday.  That patient is asymptomatic and is in her twenties. She remains under quarantine tonight and for the next two weeks or so.  Today, Director of Health Services, Doctor Marvin Manzanero appeared on the “Ask the Experts” webcast where he shared that to date, Belize has carried out two thousand and forty-three COVID-19 tests.

“That last batch that we completed yesterday had another positive case. That is a young female that came back from the U.S.A. on a flight on Friday. That brings our total to twenty three. Out of those we really can say we only have three active cases and one of those cases, we will have to find a way to classify it in our infographics because that person was deported to leave. That was done last week and we are anticipating that this week we will have out of those active cases two start to zero convert. So, the last batch we processed yesterday was forty-five samples. Not all of those were from the plane that arrived on Friday. Some of those samples will be run later on today. One of the things we do when people arrive, we do an initial screening process and I can tell you that out of the people that arrived on Friday we documented four of them to have had fever. Those samples are to be processed today.”
