Remains of Newborn Discovered in San Roman

Joseph Myvett

There is a disturbing report coming out of the south tonight. The remains of a newborn baby were discovered around five-forty on Sunday evening on a farm in San Roman Village in Stann Creek. A farmer was in the area when he happened upon the decomposing lower parts of a baby – the head, chest and hands were missing. The parts of the deceased child were reportedly being carried around by a dog.   Police say they are investigating. They are yet to determine who the baby’s parents are.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“Independence Police were called to an area in San Roman Village where they discovered the decomposed remains of a newborn female child, seemingly of Mayan descent. The remains were not complete. As a result, the scene was processed and the remains were removed where a postmortem should currently be underway. An investigation is ongoing at this time and officers are on the ground trying to determine whether or not or whoever is responsible for the newborn being in that area where it was found.”
