House of Representative to meet in Belmopan this coming Friday

The House of Representatives meets this coming Friday in Belmopan; at its last sitting in March the House dealt with legislating the State of Emergency which now expires at the end of June. On the agenda for next week’s meeting are four loan motions which the Prime Minister will be introducing. Government is seeking a loan of fifteen million U.S. dollars from the Caribbean Development Bank, one million U.S. dollars for sugar cane assistance to farmers, twelve million U.S. dollars from the I.D.B. to provide a safety net for vulnerable populations and one point nine million U.S. dollars for the agriculture sector. All in all, close to thirty million dollars, the equivalent of sixty million Belize, will be tabled in the House as loans to be used for COVID 19 relief. The Central Bank of Belize has also launched thirty million U.S. dollars in Treasury Notes with an attractive return of six point five percent in five years.  It is not known at this time if this will go to the House this Friday.
