Jermaine Hyde Tops the Polls to Become Vice President

Jermaine Hyde

Newly-elected vice president, Sergeant Jermaine Hyde, topped the polls with the most votes garnered.  Despite the accomplishment, he says that it was all team work and described the campaign effort as well as the work that lies ahead for the new central board of the police association.

Sgt. Jermaine Hyde, Vice President, Belize Police Association

“While I got the most votes in the elections, it was a team effort guys.  What happened is that we set out and we campaigned throughout the country.  We went to all the formations and the stations and we rallied the police officers.  We brought to them and told them what we had planned and what we intend to do in terms of welfare and it was a team effort in terms of the voting.  We’re happy that we got the support that we got from the membership, in terms of the members of the association which is the sergeants, constables and corporals.  Those are the people that [could have] voted in the hospital yesterday.  They came out in full force and we got for the first time so many people participating, so many police officers participated in the election which showed us that they are ready for us to work for them and they spoke and it’s time for us to act and we are ready to act for the people.  If you look around, there’s a lot of things we can do for the welfare of police officers and like Ms. Usher said, if the police officers are comfortable in working then we expect them to perform at a higher level in terms of professionalism. At this point in time we are just taking over in terms of being the central board of the association.  We do not want to go into the financials as yet, but one thing we can say is that we want to make sure that our people hold us accountable.  We will be accountable to them and we will be transparent to them.  So if for any reason we continue with any type of contribution from our membership, we will, and you can take it from us saying this now, we will be accountable to them and we will be transparent to them.”
