Attorney Audrey Matura Writes to B.B.S. Director Jose Trejo

Attorney Audrey Matura, on behalf of Gas Tomza, BWEL and Z Gas, has written to the Director of the Belize Bureau of Standards, Jose Trejo. In a letter dated June fifteenth, eight questions are posed to Trejo.  Matura says that the public has the right to know the answers, including the formula used to set the prices for LPG.

Audrey Matura, Attorney

“We sent a letter to Jose Trejo the director, the control of supplies. We sent that yesterday when we got the new prices. We think there is a lack of accountability and transparency. We think there are questions that they need to answer. I will give you guys copies of the questions we are asking. And I am hoping that the media will use the freedom of information act to write and ask for answers to these questions. They must prove to you documentation as to what is the formula, how they come up with these prices because last time the increase was thirty-one cents. This time it is thirty-eight cents, that is how we get sixty-nine cents. My clients three good size companies operating for years on only forty cents and they compete with each other to stay in the market. So imagine now a company that has absolutely monopoly could increase without telling what is their landing price, can’t even justify how they will follow the price control of the government. So where is the in between. So there are not only ensuring their one-sixty, they get to cream off on all ends. And what they get to do? They get to push away the competition. Monopolies are illegal in other countries. Only in Belize any [bleep] goes.”
