Stakeholders Meet to Discuss Proposed Development in PG

According to Mayor McKenzie, a meeting with residents, as well as technical personnel from various agencies, is being held this evening in Punta Gorda to discuss the issue of the proposed construction.

On the Phone: Ashton McKenzie, Punta Gorda Mayor

“Well there was a request for a meeting today by the owner of Uno Gas Station here in Punta Gorda, Mr. Alistair King in relation to the ongoing development.  I have made clear in numerous instances that I have no objection to any meeting happening, however, if we are to meet then it is very important that we have the pertinent stakeholders, as well as authorities and decision making bodies who have the ability to influence this particular development.  Those bodies would include the Ministry of Petroleum, they are the ones responsible for the issuance of permits and licenses for the sale of gasoline, diesel, kerosene, etc…  And of course, in order for this individual to be able to transact business there, of course a permit from them is important, it is essential.  The Department of the Environment, that is the body that is responsible to oversee the coordination of environmental impact assessments, E.I.A.  The owner of the said property to of course be present to answer possible questions and concerns and also business owners situated in the immediate area, as well as persons who reside there, because of course, if we are to meet then let us meet to ascertain the facts surrounding the matter.  We can’t have a meeting that will be simply a meeting with no facts and a meeting that will be emotionally charged rather than trying to look at things in an objective manner and rather than looking at things based on facts.”
