John Briceño: Call Elections Now!

John Briceño

General elections were generally expected to be held in November of this year, but the global COVID-19 pandemic has put the plans of the political parties on pause.  The ruling United Democratic Party has yet to elect a new leader after the John Saldivar rein of three days. The Prime Minister has stated the date for elections are not on his radar.  Due to COVID-19, the political war chests of both parties may not be full to the rim, but Briceño’s call for elections was reiterated today.  The government’s success at addressing the coronavirus pandemic and the economic crisis are two factors that will be on the minds of voters.  Briceño says that it is time for the people to declare a new mandate.

John Briceño, Leader of Opposition

“This government is coming to the end of its term and we are facing the most economic crisis that this country has ever had before independence and after independence. There are some very important decisions, some are going to be tough but some of them are going to have serious implications in the years to come. The decent thing that any government should do including the United Democratic Party government should do is to be able to be able to the call the elections for them to either to get a fresh mandate or not. I think there is no other way to address it.”
