In respect of repatriation, hundreds of Belizeans remain struck overseas in nearby or far flung countries due to travel restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Five hundred and seventy Belizeans have applied to return to the country; one hundred and sixty eight have been approved.  The bulk of applicants are in the U.S., as many as two hundred and thirty nine, thirty-five in Mexico, thirty-two in Guatemala twenty in Peru and nineteen in Cuba. Others are in Central American and Caribbean countries, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. According to a release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the small number of locals in numerous countries would not make it feasible for repatriation flights but the government is looking at various ways as to how Belizeans can make their way back to the country.
