Story Picture
The excitement of September celebrations has been steadily increasing, but not all of the month’s activities involve jumping up. On Wednesday, Jackie Woods got in the spirit by taking in a show at… the library.

It is the first of its kind exhibition hosted by the National Library Service of Belize. The display, which is mounted at the Thurton Library on North Front Street, offers a pictorial guide to special September events from the 1940′s running up to independence day 1981.

“Last year we had an exhibition biography week, we featured seventeen people. This year we decided to do something different. We came up with the idea of September To Remember.”

“They depict the ceremony at the memorial park, the citizens parade and the floats. It was a mass work done searching for people to help us with pictures to put in the exhibition. Some of the people that I thought that had some of the pictures, they told me they were lost in the hurricane. When I went to this specific person, Miss Meg Craig and she gave me a vast amount of pictures that I can exhibit today in this exhibition.”

Pictures as well came from Emma Boiton, Antonio Cervantes and the Belize Archives Department. The exhibition will run until September 29th. The general public is invited to attend.
