Image Factory @ 25!

The iconic Image Factory Art Foundation is celebrating twenty-five years today.  Over the years, we have grown to recognize the Image Factory as the most edgy and innovative art gallery in the city, where you can find exhibitions, art, photography, book launches and a host of anything relating to visual arts. One of the central attractions is that it carries the works of a long list of contemporary artists, both new and seasoned. As a part of its celebration, Artistic Director Yasser Musa presented a collection of five thousand books, printed matter materials and original art works to the National Library Service.  The collection is to be used for public consumption. Here’s more from today’s presentation.

“I have every confidence in the library service of Belize. While the library service has remained a kind of quiet space in our imagination, I believe that the next twenty-five years the library service will be more important to the citizens of Belize, than ever. Yes, many of us have this false notion that a library is a static space of just books and so, but as a teacher, I recognize what one book can do to spark the imagination of our young people. So, by having a new and an additional collection like this, I want to collaborate with the library to see how we can mobilize this collection and ignite and use this as sparks because it I was just sitting down in our space as well dying. Books will die if you as living people don’t make them live and it is our responsibility to make them live.”

“The library has an outreach programme and it also has displays that we do on a continuous basis. We are open to the community to come into the library and use the resources. The library, even though it is quiet and people don’t see it out there and people don’t see it moving, we are. We have a book mobile and we can also incorporate some of these collections within the book mobile. Presently, with one book mobile we are servicing nineteen service points. So, in addition to the forty-seven service points we have in country, we have nineteen mobile areas that we connect to. We go from Corozal to Jalacte down south and from San Pedro to Benque Viejo Del Carmen. All in between, we have service areas that we can promote these materials to the public.”
