Something is Wrong with the Unemployment Relief Programme

There is an update to the Unemployment Relief Programme and it is not good news for those persons waiting for financial relief. The hotline numbers that were listed on the Unemployment Relief Portal are inactive due to public officers returning to their substantive posts. Those applicants who still have not been able to receive their approved payments are told to use their TopUp Debit Card which is issued by Heritage Bank. But there are many complaints from applicants saying they have not received the financial assistance. The government says that affected persons who did not receive a text; may have provided erroneous information. Opposition Leader John Briceño says there is something wrong with the unemployment relief programme.

“There seems to be an issue on the unemployment relief because many people have applied and they can’t somehow seem that they can’t get the help. What is really happening there? I am not sure but it is something that needs to be, that we need to take a hard look and see how we can fix these issues to ensure that our Belizeans citizens can get the assistance that was promised to them.”
