Annual parade will showcase new trucks

Story Picture
While the training may take some time to implement, the Fire Service’s shiny new equipment will be very much in evidence as the annual fire engine parade winds its way through the principal streets of Belize City.

Ted Smith, Coordinator

“This is a tradition within the National Fire Service, where every year the fire engine parade is held followed by a smoker. It first started for volunteers, it was originally for the volunteers. It’s a time of the year where the merchants contributed money and food stuffs to the volunteer section of the fire department in a token of their appreciation of the service the volunteer rendered to the community over the past year.”

“Well we expect to see five trucks from Belize City involved in the parade. The four KB trucks that we have just received and one of the Carmichael from the back that came in from San Pedro. Five of these trucks we expect to see in the parade apart from the utility vehicle and the fire chief vehicle.”

The parade gets underway at 7:00 on Saturday night from the National Fire Service headquarters. Cyclists are being asked to be careful and not to ride too close behind the trucks. Parents, as this is one event that attracts children, you are asked to keep a careful watch on the young ones as they line the streets to watch the parade.
