Confiscated Aircrafts Bought By Belizeans and Foreigners

Felix Enriquez

According to Enriquez, the collective price for the aircrafts was determined based on the conditions in which they were being sold, and many of them were damaged after landing on makeshift runways in various parts of the country.

Felix Enriquez, C.E.O., Ministry of National Security

“The aircrafts are, in many cases, very damaged; in many cases wouldnt have certain numbers, identification numbers and certain things that, in the aircraft business, you need to verify because once they get up in the air there are certain things you cant check as you would on the road.  And so there is a lot of risk in taking on these aircrafts, and so the best thing for us to do is to take on these bids.  Theyve been on the market for some time and so right now the government is strapped for money and we are happy that we finally got rid of them, first of all, out of our lots and to actually get some money off of it because we do spend a lot of money capturing them.”

Isani Cayetano

“My final question regarding these aircrafts, can you confirm whether these planes were purchased by a Belizean entity or is it someone from outside of the country?”

Felix Enriquez

“I think its a joint venture that purchased them, Belizean and foreigners.”
