Belize Enters 8th Week since Last Positive COVID-19 Case

Marvin Manzanero

More than one thousand six hundred COVID-19 tests have been conducted and as of Tuesday afternoon, only two cases were under investigation. Belize continues with zero positive COVID-19 and is standing out in the region for this record. At this time, there are no reports of anyone reporting to hospitals or clinics with signs and symptoms of the virus.  So in the meantime, health officials are monitoring the region including our neighbours to the north and west.  Director of Health Services Doctor Marvin Manzanero explains.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“I don’t think we have patients out there circulating currently. Even if we are then we have to be a lucky population that it has continued to propagate itself for more than seven weeks and nobody has shown up at hospitals severely ill. So if you are telling me you have people out there that are having minimal signs and symptoms and walking about that would be a plus but we can’t ascertain that so I don’t think I want to us the term COVID-19 free because as long it is around us it is going to come.”

Hipolito Novelo

“But I am saying since the weeks have past no new COVID case, it can actually mean that there is no one in Belize with that virus at the moment walking in public.”

Dr. Marvin Manzanero

“It would seem to be that there is no active person going around, yes.”
