C.W.U. and P.B.L. Resolve Stevedores’ Issue

A meeting was held on Tuesday afternoon between the Christian Workers Union and the Port of Belize Limited. It was mediated by the Labour Department and focused on a three-day interruption at the port. On Saturday morning, stevedores decided to support trailers because they could not work the ship.  But it is all resolved on Tuesday and work resumes.  President of the Christian Workers Union Evan Mose Hyde explains.

“The outcome of the meeting is that tomorrow morning the loading of the sugar is going to resume at six a.m. and trailers will be allowed to work. That is agreed upon at the concerns of P.B.L. where they would want to regularize the list of trailers accepting that trailers are a part of the ecosystem down at the water front. We are going to engage in discussion that will regularize the process at least some kind of compromise. In the meantime the trailers are once again able to go and so they stevedores felt they are okay to resume dealing with the barge.”
