78 Arrests Made over the Weekend under S.O.E. Regulations

Seventy-eight more persons were added to the list of over one thousand persons who have been arrested and charged for various offenses under the emergency powers regulations. According to the official number released by the Belize Police Department for the weekend, forty persons were charged for breach of curfew; another fifteen failed to wear a cloth mask or other face covering whilst in public, while fourteen were unable to provide reasonable explanation or proof of movement outside of curfew. There were also five persons charged for illegally entering Belize and four failed to practice social distancing. As you know statutory instrument seventy-eight of 2020, which has further eased restrictions, came into effect on June first.  There were additional changes to the emergency powers regulations with respect to social gatherings, amendments to curfew hours and the reopening of other businesses.
