John Saldivar Still Wants to be U.D.P. Leader and Prime Minister

As for leadership ambitions, John Saldivar has been marred by the Lev Dermen scandal earlier this year, which resulted in a humiliating resignation as U.D.P. party leader elect as well as his removal from cabinet.  Saldivar says he is not fazed by those events since he stands behind his innocence in accepting monies from the incarcerated fraudster.

John Saldivar, Area Representative, Belmopan

“I think it is two-pronged.  I think you might recognize that over the years, I have always been one to talk about policy and all my years as a politician I’ve always been throwing out ideas out there on how to fix things and certainly in the context of the last convention that ended on February ninth with my victory, leading up to that I had been espousing quite a few of my proposals, policies which I had hoped to implement upon become the leader of my party and the leader of the country.  And so, those two things coincided again this time and you know with COVID-19 we’ve had a lot of time to think and reflect and as the economist that I am, that’s where my thoughts were throughout this, how we can rebound from this. I am prepared to lead in the drafting of those laws for the country of Belize.”

“Now you realize that that will sound hypocritical…”

John Saldivar

“For those who believe that I am guilty of something, but those who know that I am not guilty of something, for those who know the John Saldivar, for those who know the man of honesty and integrity know that that doesn’t sound hypocritical at all.”
