More Businesses Open Up – with Restrictions!

Michael Peyrefitte

…and now to the relaxation for public places and spaces. Street vending is now permitted, but will be subjected to public health guidelines. Boledo, casino, gyms and all restaurants are now allowed to operate but, again, with some restrictions. AG Michael Peyrefitte outlines those new changes.

Michael Peyrefitte, Attorney General

“Street food vendors; tacos stand; barbecue stand; can now go back and operate on the streets. I must warn you though that the Ministry of Health will be approaching these street food vendors very soon if they haven’t done already and will be putting in certain protocols that they must follow in order to maximize the hygiene and necessary cleanliness you must have when you are dealing with street food. When you are on the street you have dust particles; and I also notice that with the taco vendors, the same hand the lady roll the tacos dah the same hand she push inna the apron and give you your change with and that is not healthy. So, different protocols will be put in place to make sure that those places are as sanitary as possible.  Boledo is back. People can once again buy boledo back by popular demand. Casinos are open but under some restrictions. Hotels and other accommodations are open as well during that time. The big change has been now restaurants – even if you are not open air you can still open now. So, if you are a restaurant that is a/c only you can open but certain rules remain.  Guests of the same party are limited to ten members seated together. Minimum distance of six feet between tables and reservations only. Still reservation. Still six feet between tables and limited to ten persons per table. Restaurants are open – whether you are open air or a/c inside – so if Chon Saan want, they could take those people off the verandah and put them inside but they must be under certain rules.  You have restaurant license and public and special. Restaurant license say you could serve liquor but it has to be with food; publican special license say you could serve liquor and nuh have to serve no food you could just drink. Those people who have publican special license are allowed to be open but they must operate like a restaurant not like a bar.   One beer with a bowl of ceviche not ten hard back man with one small bowl of ceviche and fifty bucket of beer; clearly you nuh the drink with your food you just have a lee bowl deh to camouflage the thing.   Casinos and gaming establishments are now open. They will be allowed to open from eight in the morning to seven dah night Sunday to Thursday and from eight dah morning to eight dah night Friday and Saturday. However, there will be no smoking in the casinos and no drinking will be allowed in the casinos.   Gymnasiums will now be open. The national sports council will soon come out with a set of rules that will govern gyms; sets of protocols that they must follow that in order for them to stay open they must follow these rules or they will be closed down. That is forth coming; the national sports council is working on that.”

The churches also get a break. Forty people are now allowed to congregate for worship. Other social events like weddings and funerals can also accommodate up to forty people. But public spaces like parks and playgrounds remain off limits.
