Patrick Faber on Mental Health Awareness Month

Patrick Faber

The month of May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month. It is a difficult time as the COVID-19 pandemic is posing unprecedented challenges. There are different forms of mental illness that can manifest as a result of stress of having to cope with different situations.  Today, Minister of Education, Patrick Faber wore the colour green to promote the awareness and said it is a silent issue that everyone must be able to recognise.

Patrick Faber, Minister of Education

“Mental health is very important. It is a silent issue in our country. Many people suffer from it; some people don’t know themselves that they are suffering from it. And so we have to make people aware and so I am doing my part today and I am asking the media as well to do their part and all Belizeans to do their part to create awareness and to reach out to your loved ones or friends who may be experiencing the various types or forms of mental illness. Some of it is very pronounced, some of it is very subtle, but we don’t know. But if we start paying attention, we might well be able to recognise this and we will be able to be there to support them every step of the way.”
