Police ID Machine Down

Chester Williams

A complaint was made to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams during his time on Ask the Experts today.  According to the complainant, who is a Benque Viejo resident, plain clothes officers on patrol seemed to have been offended after the complainant requested information from them.  Now, the Commissioner has reiterated several times that the public has every right to request information from a police officer on duty.  One of those requests is identification such as name and badge number.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“The fact that we are not having much crime being committed we try to use detectives in such a way that we can use them to prevent crime from occurring. That is one of the reasons why they might see these officers in plain clothes. In terms of officers not having an ID I don’t why is that. I know for a fact though that our ID machine had spoiled and we had ordered a new one but because of this pandemic we have not be able to get it. I can say tht the machine is a costly one but it is needed and so we have gone ahead and ordered. So hopefully we are getting that machine very shortly.”

The ComPol also said that at checkpoints, the officers should not touch the IDs from the drivers.
