Lord Ashcroft COVID-19 Relief Fund Donates to Diocesan Outreach Commission

Michael Ashcroft

More than six hundred families are benefitting from the Anglican Diocese’s food pantry programme which ensures that the families can cope with the impact from the COVID-19 crisis as they struggle with food insecurity and joblessness. As we know, as many as eighty-three thousand persons applied for unemployment relief from the government programme, showing that a large segment of the population is in desperate need of support.  Today, the Diocese received a donation of sixty thousand dollars to be able to continue with the Mission Feed Belize programme for at least another three months. The Diocesan Outreach Commission reached out the Lord Ashcroft COVID-19 Relief Fund committee, which approved the contribution, noting that it shares the vision to assist marginalized families. The fund has been extending support to numerous organizations at this difficult time, providing aid and meal assistance. On Thursday, Lord Ashcroft explains what motivated him to step up.

Lord Michael Ashcroft

“Once it was obvious that the nation was going to have to prepare itself and would run into some problems with financing, finding equipment, so and so forth, that I felt that people who could contribute financially—those that had the wealth to be able to do something—should step forward. So that was the motivation and I hoped that other wealthy families in Belize would equally step forward and be able to assist as much as they can. And many of them and some of them have to various degrees that they are able to. So that was just a gesture at that particular point and I am very pleased with the ability to help—not just on medical supplies, but on food.”

Lyndon Guiseppi, Chairman of the Lord Ashcroft COVID-19 Relief Fund made the contribution to Bishop Phillip Wright and Jeffrey Locke, Chairman of the Anglican Cathedral College.
