ComPol Williams Says Ulysease Roca Died of HIV Complications

Ulysease Roca

Tonight there is more on the death of fashion designer Ulysease Roca, who was determined to have died from multiple organ failure. The HIV patient was found dead in his home in Willows Bank Village on April nineteenth. But before passing, Roca posted an emotional live video on his Facebook in which he accused officers of taking advantage of him while he was in detention for breaching the curfew regulations. In the video, Roca’s jaw was swollen and he accused the arresting officer of hitting him. His subsequent death attracted the condemnation of the public and of Roca’s family, who accused the police officers of directly causing his death. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams today countered the family’s assertion, saying that the cameras inside Raccoon Police Station do not show Roca being hit by the named officers. Commissioner Williams says that the officer who Roca accused was not working on the night in question, nor is he a component of the department’s state of emergency operations. Williams further explained that Roca had been beaten by family members in Belize City days before his passing. One key point Williams made sure to stress is that Roca died as a result of HIV complications.

“The surveillance video from within the police station and the cell block show the police encounter with him and at no time during his stay at the police station was he ever beaten by the police. That was revealed by the video footages. The police officer in question that he named in terms of who beat him that police officer isn’t even a part of the State of Emergency Operation and was not even working on that night in question or any at all around that time and he was never at the police station. I got a complaint from police officer in Ladyville that one night recently Ulysease showed up at the Ladyville police station and he told the police that his family members in Belize City had beaten him and chased him away.  And he walked to Ladyville Police Station and he asked the officers there if he could have spent the night there and go on to Willows Bank in the morning. The officers allowed him to stay at Ladyville Police Station because of the fact that this family according to the officers beaten him and chased him away. That is not the way you treat a human being. If the family members want to be upset because what I am saying I don’t care but it is the truth. The biggest persons who failed Ulysease are them and they need to accept that. It is the truth. We have found in that research that a person who is in that advance stage of HIV Aids that the lymph nodes will get swollen and it will show a swelling right in the neck jaw area and that is in consistent with the type of injury or the type of swelling that Ulysease Roca had and we believe that it was indeed that caused that swelling and not no blow to the jaw as what was suggested.”
