But police officers are yet to be held criminally charged for the vicious beating put on Alejandro Chavez, a seventy-seven-year-old resident of the San Martin community in Belmopan. The incident happened on April third when police were out on curfew patrol. The officers were reportedly pursuing two persons after eight o’clock that night. The pursuit led police to Chavez’s residence where they brutalized the elderly man; it was all captured on video. While the investigation is nearing its end, the Officer Commanding Professional Standards Branch Superintendent Dwayne Sutherland says that Chavez has yet to make an official report.

“On several occasions members of the Professional Standards Branch visited him at his residence with a view to try and obtain a written statement. That written statement will then guide us to how to proceed with that matter. He asked of us to hold on so that he can consult with an attorney and once that consultation is met he will then come to the Professional Standards branch along with that attorney and give that statement. So we are waiting on him and until then we will proceed further with that investigation. With that same incident there were two other individuals that were injured, one by the name of Sergio Chan. He was also treated as the Western Regional Hospital for injuries. He was released. His injuries were classified as harm.  He gave a statement, stating that he does not want to pursue the matter further. Nevertheless the will be utilize within the other investigations that are still pending. The third person that was injured in this incident in on Gustavo Perrerol. He was allegedly injured as a result of rubber bullet or non lethal bullets that were used on him. The investigation continues. We are almost through with the investigation and as soon as we are completed with the investigation hopefully sometime next week an officer or officers will be held accountable for the injuries that Mr. Gustavo sustained.”
