Two Vessels Arrive from San Pedro Over the Weekend
On Saturday morning, dozens of passengers destined for other parts of the country arrived by sea at the San Pedro Belize Water Taxi Terminal. Many of them had been trapped on Ambergris Caye at the time when the first confirmed case of COVID-19 was announced on March twenty-third. The weekend arrival of two vessels saw the disembarkation of a throng of passengers who boarded buses that were headed to the northern and southern districts. The police department was on hand to oversee the arrival and subsequent departure of these individuals.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“Well our role was just simply to ensure that those who were to leave the island left and when they arrived in the city to ensure that they do not wonder off into the city, that they board their buses and go to the respective areas that they were supposed to go. So I believe it was well coordinated.”

“So on previous occasions they were left to themselves to, in essence, catch a bus…”
Chester Williams
“Yes, but this time we coordinated it and ensured that they got on their bus and they went to whatever area they were supposed to go.”
