Belize Confirms 9th COVID-19 Case

As we start the Easter weekend, the novel coronavirus continues to spread. Ministry of Health today confirmed the ninth case of the deadly COVID-19. The patient is a female minor who is in self-isolation at home in San Ignacio and is showing no symptoms. This brings the total cases of COVID-19 in the Cayo District to four. And as you know, the only person to have died so far due to the virus is Hubert Pipersburgh from San Ignacio. According to the Ministry of Health, thirty samples of COVID-19 were tested on Wednesday which confirmed the ninth case. Director of Health Services, Doctor Marvin Manzanero says that patient nine came in contact with a previously identified patient. This is the first case where the patient is a minor.

“It is a minor. That is perhaps as much as I would say for now and that minor is linked to one of the previous cases that we had identified in the Cayo District. The person is virtually with no symptoms and is self isolated at home with one of the contacts that we had documented earlier in the week. That resulted as part of our mapping exercise that we had done. That would be case number nine that we had done. Eventually we had said we are going to be more and more cases. We are not anticipating that every case will be now done via press release. Going forward we going to have to find a different mechanism for updating our little info graphic or put an online counter in terms of active cases, recovered cases and documented cases. Going forward that is the mechanism we perhaps will be using once we start identifying cases.”
