John Briceño: “government is under a severe cash flow crunch”
Public officers across the country find themselves without their scheduled salary before the Easter; they will now be paid until April fourteenth. While the government is obligated to pay salaries two times per month, it has been the norm at this time of the year that those in the public service are paid before they go on Easter break. It is a concern, says Leader of the Opposition, John Briceño, because thousands of public officers were expecting to do their shopping before the Easter vacation, which they will be spending at home.

“We are extremely concerned. This has never come to our committee for any kind of discussion that we are alerted that this is taking place. Now I do understand that the government is under a severe cash flow crunch like everybody else but this was never disclosed to us but we need to do everything possible to be able to ensure that our public officers are able to get their monies as quickly as possible. I think I will appeal to the Prime Minister and the Financial Secretary tht we need to come up with a plan on how we will address these very important issues that are affecting thousands of Belizeans across the country.”
