When is the COVID-19 Bus Relief Coming?

Thomas Shaw

So – the decision was a suspension of bus service countrywide which was to go into effect on Sunday. But a few hours later, James Bus Line and West Line issued notices that they were keeping their buses on the road.  A few other bus operators are operating on a limited schedule out of the north. But that suspension, as was shared by President Thomas Shaw of the B.B.A., wasn’t meant to last for the duration of the State of Emergency. Shaw said if bus lines are able to access some of the relief funds they would be able to get back on the road. Here’s how he explains it.

Thomas Shaw, President, BBA

“All operators, everybody is suffering. If we can get some sort of relief with the fuel, my operators are willing to go back to normal. But at the end of the day we don’t want to be running and then at the end of the day we are living on promises and then already exhausted all our funds and not getting it back because this is what is taking place.”

“Expecting some kind of help – is there anything forthcoming on that matter?”

Thomas Shaw

“Well, we are not sure because it is going on two weeks now and we haven’t heard anything and we put operational costs but doesn’t mean that everything we put there is everything we wanted. But we put that for them to see what we are going through. Like I said, if they could meet us halfway with the fuel, whatever. I can tell you that for myself, for the past two weeks I have lost tremendously.”

Andrea Polanco

“What would the Government need to say to you today or show to you maybe in writing to get those buses back on the road?”

Thomas Shaw

“It could be maybe a phone call or a meeting on Monday assuring that we come up with a skeleton schedule and showing the operators that this is what G.O.B. will be doing. They will be more than happy to go out there.”
