AG Shares Amendments to S.I. Before it is Signed Off by the GG

Michael Peyrefitte

As the situation evolves, Minister Michael Peyrefitte also noted that there are changes to the Statutory Instrument made by the National Oversight Committee. He explained the sections of two of the primary changes and what the public can expect to come from those revisions initially shared with the public on Wednesday.

Michael Peyrefitte, Attorney General

“We go to section four three and we have taken out section our three that says sub-regulations one and two shall not apply to essential workers providing essential services. So, we are not giving any option for an essential service person to work during the curfew hours. Not because you are a curfew worker means you can go willy-nilly eight dah night and five dah morning. Because even though you may be essential what you need to do can easily be done between five in the morning and eight at night which is the earliest the curfew ends and right up to when it begins again.  No person shall move across any district boundaries nor across localities within any district; city; town; village or community except for the purposes listed in five-two. If you live dah Belize City, and you are going to Orange Walk to purchase something, it must be something that is an essential need and you must be attending a doctor; you must have an emergency; you must be an essential worker of a business employee and you must also demonstrate that you had to gone dah orange walk for it.”
