Chinese Association Donates Five Thousand Face Masks

An initial donation of five thousand face masks was made by the Belize Chinese Association to the police department, the Ministry of Health, as well as the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital earlier today.  All three organizations are on the frontline in the fight against COVID-19.  According to President Johnston Ou, the initial contribution serves as a test run to determine the shipment route for additional donations.

Johnston Ou, President, Belize Chinese Association

“This is the first shipment that we received and this first shipment was only five thousand pieces, actually it’s six thousand pieces.  It’s a small amount but this is just to try out the route because the route is very dangerous right now because it’s by air.  They have to pass through many different countries and the countries might just, you know, take it away.  So this is the first shipment that we received and we’re going to donate to the police department, health department and Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.  And we have a second shipment which is twenty thousand pieces that is coming and we are expecting them sometime next week, I hope, or maybe early the week after.”

“What made you guys decide as an association to reach out to the various organizations with this kind of assistance?”

Johnston Ou

“Well with the condition that we have right now with the COVID-19, the face masks are the most important protection and that I think, especially the people in the frontline, the essential workers.”
