ComPol Says Police Need to Know Who is in Quarantine

Chester Williams

As you have seen, the B.D.F. is on guard at a hotel up north where a number of persons are on mandatory quarantine. This morning, the commissioner said the police should be kept in the loop by the authorities about persons under quarantine.  He acknowledges that though people have a right to privacy, if the police doesn’t know who is in quarantine, his officers can be put at risk. This comes on the heels of police intervention at an incident in the city where more than ten persons had gathered.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“I have discussed with Doctor Manzanero and I have said to him that I would like for us to be informed—not just for us to be able to monitor, but also for the safety of our officers because we go to do searches at homes. And we wouldn’t want our officers go and do search at a home where there is someone being quarantined and then our officers are exposed. Like what happened yesterday, we went and conduct searches art two houses and those two houses we happened to come across persons who were on quarantine. In one case, one of the persons was socializing with others which is wrong.”

“…and came back from the epicenter in the U.S.”

“Yes. So we are looking at that particular case. We are trying to get certain information from the Ministry of Health in terms of when he came in, who gave him the order to quarantine and once we get those in writing, then we are going to charge him because he should ensure that he complies with the quarantine requirements. And if it is that even if it is his girlfriend or his child, they are not to come into contact with him.”

John Palacio, Co-Host, Open Your Eyes

“For fourteen days.”

Chester Williams

“Yes. So we are looking at that particular case.”
