Tents Erected on La Isla Bonito Amid COVID-19 Detection

Marvin Manzanero

In the wake of today’s announcement of the presence of COVID-19 in San Pedro, several military tents have been erected in an area of town.  Doctor Marvin Manzanero explains that while the collapsible shelters are there in case persons need to be isolated, he also emphasized that patients should first seek to self-isolate at home.  On the subject of the American national who tested positive for coronavirus one week after leaving Belize, the Director of Health Services said that the person’s travel history in Belize also may have included Belize City and San Pedro, but that information is yet to be confirmed.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“Belize City and San Pedro are the initial notes that we got from that rumored surveillance.  We have looked, remember we have talked about isolation for people who can’t isolate at home, so those would be if needed to be placed in a place away from home then.  That’s why we are talking about isolation in tents away from home, you just want to make sure that they are not contacting other family members and those are the cases that will go there.  If people can be self isolated at home and followed up by a health worker then that is what will happen, as the case with this person.”
