Man Dies 3 Weeks After Car Accident on Hummingbird Highway

Alejandro Cowo

An elderly man also perished as a result of a vehicular accident. Back on March first, sixty-six-year-old Ruperto Garcia was involved in a road traffic accident on the Hummingbird Highway, in front of the headquarters of the Football Federation of Belize. Garcia had been hospitalized since the incident in a critical condition, but over the weekend, he succumbed to the injuries. Garcia was a passenger inside a vehicle driven by a resident from Camalote Village. The driver, however, fled the scene and police have not been able to catch up with him. Here’s Superintendent Alejandro Cowo with details:

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Eastern Division

“Mister Ruperto Herrera Garcia, sixty-six years old, was inside of the vehicle when the vehicle overturned and he received injuries to his body. He was transported to the hospital and was admitted for the past three weeks. Unfortunately, on Saturday, he passed away because of the injuries he received during that accident. So far, I was made to understand that the driver had fled from the scene and has not been captured up to this moment.”

Reporter

“Sir what is the challenge in trying to locate this individual? Is it that you believe that he’s hiding out in a different part of the country?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“Well I know that police have already obtained a name and address and they have checked on several occasions at the address, but he has not been located.”

Duane Moody

“That person is from where?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“I believe he is from Camalote Village.”
