Caye Caulker Residents Become Stranded in Belize City

After the confirmation of Belize’s first COVID-19 case in Belize, transportation to and from San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye was discontinued. San Pedro has been placed on quarantine and residents there are asked to stay home. Both water taxi companies have temporarily stopped operations. Unfortunately for Caye Walk Village, the companies have also stopped transporting passengers to La Isla Carinosa. The village had intended to stop visitors to the island, but over the weekend, they were overruled by the Office of the Attorney General. This afternoon, we met some Caye Caulker residents in front of Ocean Ferry Terminal and they told News Five that they are not being permitted to go home.
