Police Make Several Arrests Following Belize City Bloodbath

Several persons were arraigned this evening in the lower courts after being charged for crimes ranging from attempted murder to murder.  On Tuesday afternoon, twenty-two-year-old Derrick King, an employee of Bowen and Bowen Limited, was ruthless gunned down as he delivered beverages along with a coworker on Orange Street.  Police investigations are now suggesting that the Faber’s Road resident was not fatally wounded in a crossfire, but that he was in fact the intended target of the deadly shooting.  For that homicide, three Taylor’s Alley residents have since been arrested and charged.  According to Superintendent Alejandro Cowo, detectives have been working overtime to try and solve these incidents.  During March fifteenth and seventeenth, as many as fifteen persons, men, women and children fell victim to a spike in gun violence in Belize City.

“Due to the several incidents that happened during the week, investigators have been busy working out, trying to gather evidence as much as possible so that we can find those persons that have been involved in these shootings.  And as a result of that, reference to the shooting of Mr. Keith Courtney, police have arrested two minors and they were taken to court a while ago.  Also, for the fatal shooting of Derrick King which occurred on Tuesday, police arrested and charged four persons for murder and three of them for conspiracy to commit murder.  They are Randy Green, Paul Smith, Charles Middleton and Luciano Novelo, all of a Taylor’s Alley address.”

“Can you confirm then sir, that Mr. King was in fact the target of that shooting then, or was he caught in the crossfire as was previously reported?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“We suspect now, after we have gathered evidence, that he was the intended target.”

“Are you able to say what caused him to be targeted sir, or is that too much at this time?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“No, we are still dealing with the investigation, we have a possible motive but it is something that we still need to confirm, hence the reason why we just leave it at that at this moment. Also police arrested and charged Ulyde Allen for the shooting of Michael Pook which happened about a month ago.  He was arrested and charged for the crime of attempted murder and use of deadly means of harm and dangerous harm.  He was escorted to court and he was taken to prison yesterday.”

“Are you able to say what caused the month long delay in getting to this point?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“Well he had been absconding from police for a good while.  He handed over himself to the police which resulted in his arrest.”
