What’s Ahead for Citizen Security this Weekend?

Chester Williams

ComPol Chester Williams stopped short of divulging operational details of police activities that are scheduled for this weekend, suffice to say that the ramped up presence of officers in the designated hotspots will remain indefinitely.  As for any legal challenged that may arise from this thirty-day period of detention, the top cop says that several lessons were learned from the 2018 state of emergency.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“We do have our strong presence in the different areas, as well as across the country because we know that while we have captured those who fled into different parts of the country there are still some that we have not captured as yet and while we don’t anticipate that they are going to come out and may want to do things, we must ensure that we remain in such a mode that if they decide to that we’ll be prepared for them.  And so yes, we are prepared operationally to be able to ensure that we do as best as we can to have a safe weekend. We have learned a lot from the first state of emergency and so those issues that were raised by the attorneys that we believe are legitimate, we’re ensuring now that those glitches do not occur.  Now some may say that the state of emergency is a violation of the constitution, but remember that it is the same constitution in Section 18 that grants the authority or the power to the Governor General to declare a state of emergency in situations where there is a person or persons who are behaving in such a way that they may create public terror or to cause a sector of society to become uncomfortable and fearful.”
