FECTAB Demands a Seat at the Table

Yhony Rosado

The first case of coronavirus is yet to be confirmed in Belize and while many are hunkering down in fear of contracting the illness once it makes landfall, stakeholders in the tourism industry are suffering massive losses due to the cancellation of cruise visits.  This morning, the Federation of Cruise Tourism Associations of Belize, FECTAB, held a press conference during which it demanded that government makes available a seat at the table as far as the disbursal of relief to stakeholders in the sector.  While a pair of financial experts has been appointed to assist with the disbursement of relief funds, FECTAB has raised strong objects on account of the bureaucratic process that it foresees.

Yhony Rosado, Tour Operator

“We need sponsorship now; we need it, in a very humble way.  A bag of rice, a bag of beans for the tour guides.  I don’t want to ask for money because I know Belizeans are ready to criticize.  I really, really and truly don’t want anything from this government or from B.T.B. for myself, it is for my tour guides and all the other tour guides and drivers that I know that are punishing.  If me Yhony Rosado have many vehicles and I cannot sell none because nobody is buying.  And so if I am in trouble as the main tour operator and as the leader of my company, imagine my tour guides.  And so, I am here in a tone of voice again, I don’t want to get out of hand that Yhony went up against the government and I am not coming in that time of voice, it is just my attitude because I feel it.  Bob Marley once said who feels it knows it.  A lot of people might be calling us and criticizing us, FECTAB again.  It’s a totally different thing and we have a record that most of the time if not all the time we are correct.”
