Investigators Following Leads in Collet Morter’s Killing

The Lake Independence area is in lockdown, having been identified as a hotspot for gang activity.  B.D.F. soldiers and police officers are stationed at all streets and access to that community.  On Monday night, the gun violence in the Old Capital ended up on Gladden Street where a father of one was executed. Collet Morter was at a house where he frequents when someone came calling his name. He exited the screened door to be blasted by bullets from an unknown gunman. While ACP Joseph Myvett did not go into specifics on a motive, he says that investigators are following up on several leads.

“Sometime shortly after nine p.m. in Belize City where they observed a male dark complexion person later identified as Collet Morter with apparent gunshot injuries and motionless. He was transported to the K.H.M.H. where he was pronounced dead on arrival. What the police know so far is that Morter was along with friends were at a home on Gladden Street when he was called outside by someone. As a result, he then went outside and that is when he received those injuries. We are pursuing several leads in relation to this at this point in time.”
