4 Year-Old Dominic Rhamdas is the 3rd Person Killed in King’s Park Shooting

Dominic Rhamdas

Among the seven persons to be senselessly killed in the past forty-eight hours, is another infant, four-year-old Dominic Rhamdas.  The young child was at home when his mother Shakira White and her boyfriend Philip Leslie were both murdered on Sunday night. A crazed gunman unleashed as many as twenty shots on Leslie; Shakira took seventeen shots to her body, attempting to protect Dominic, who was hit four times.  A sibling, who was hit to the leg, was able to survive the spray of bullets. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

Four-year-old Dominic Rhamdas succumbed to gunshot injuries on Monday night while receiving treatment. The infant was injured in a most callous act of gun violence approximately twenty-four hours earlier as he, his two-year-old sister as well as his mother Shakira White and her boyfriend Philip Leslie were inside their room on the lower flat of a wooden house in the King’s Park area. All four were injured and while Dominic’s little sister survived the attack, Leslie and White died that same night.

Voice of: Andrea Blease, Aunt of Shakira White

“Mister Philip was on the ground by the door and Shakira was behind him and my niece and my nephew, the little ones were on the bed. Before they could take Shakira out they had to break the wall because Mister Philip was already on the ground and she was stuck behind him. What my nephew did was take the baby off the bed and my gentleman took Dominic off the bed and put him in the police vehicle.  Apparently Shakira got seventeen gunshots and Mister Leslie took twenty; Dominic got four shots.”

The toddler also got injured to the knee, was treated and released; she’s the only survivor in the incident. The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the community because Skakira White and her family are well-known in the Caribbean Shores division. She worked as part of the campaign team for area rep Kareem Musa who says that the death of a woman and her child, specifically during women’s month and child stimulation month is unfathomable.

Kareem Musa, Area Representative, Caribbean Shores

“My team and I have been in a very concerned state, emotional state over the last twenty-four hours. As you know, one of our Caribbean Shores family members, Shakira White was gunned down while she was inside her home along with her children. She was actually sheltering her children, as her aunt described it, receiving as many as possibly seventeen bullets. It is a real tragedy that has rocked our community to the core. We are a peaceful residential community and I must say that it has gotten to a point where the law abiding citizens, the residents of Caribbean Shores, we are ready to take a stand to say that enough is enough.”

Families and friends share the character of the persons lost.

“She is not that type of person to harbour strange company. She will stay with the same company she knows for the amount of years. And if her spirit noh take you, she won’t friend you.  She’s not that type of person who wah create an enemy with yo. Ih just noh wah talk to yo. And her gentleman is a hard working young man.”

Kareem Musa

“Shakira and so many people have asked me to describe Shakira in the last twenty-four hours and it always takes me back to being one of the best mothers that I know. Everything that Shakira thinks or does, every move she makes, it is all about her two children. She was quiet, she was loving, she was caring, she was jovial.”
