MOH Makes Arrangements for New Screening Points & Makeshift Quarantine Center

Marvin Manzanero

The Director of Health Services also shared some updates about the opening of new screening points across the country. While there are concerns about the availability of space should there be an outbreak of COVID-19, Doctor Marvin Manzanero says that the ministry is making preparations for all of those.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“At the end of this week we will be able to tell you, as we have mapped out with the team where the specific screening areas will be for each of the major towns, including San Pedro and Belize City and where our facilities will be in case we cannot isolate you home because that can happen. Also, we will map out where we have the in-hospital care for those patients, which areas of the hospital. By Friday of this week, I want to be able to make the public announcement as to the areas where people would be able to get their specific concerns addressed. We intend to have a screen area in every major town and that means PG; Dangriga; Independence; San Ignacio; Belmopan; Belize City; Orange Walk and Corozal. Will you guys designate and keep civic center with cots/beds as a makeshift center quarantine building as other countries are doing? Yes that is part of the mapping and I know one of our health officers has already met with NEMO and health staff will go throughout the week to make sure that they have the basic facilities. We are thinking of using cots, yes, if you don’t require to have in-hospital care, as a makeshift hospital yes.”
