Gunman Breaks in Door to Murder Frederick Williams

Frederick Williams

The weekend gun violence started as early as Friday night. Eighteen-year-old Frederick Williams was targeted at his home on Partridge Street Extension. Williams was released from police custody that same night after being in custody for forty-eight hours.  Minutes later, he was dead, shot many times.   Police believe the murder was gang related. Here is News Five’s Duane Moody with a report.

Duane Moody, Reporting

An eighteen-year-old Belize City resident was murdered inside his house on Partridge Street Extension. Around eleven p.m. on March thirteenth, Frederick Williams was shot dead by a gunman who stomped down the front door and opened fire on him, as his two younger siblings were inside the bedroom. His mother says that she was notified about what happened by a friend.

Lafaye Lewis, Mother of Frederick Williams

“Dehn just call she and tell she that ih get shot up dah my house. So I tell she gial neva. I neva believe. I say neva and then I come home. And when I come home, ih neva deh yah; dehn mi done ker ahn already. I gone dah hospital and I see ahn pan the hospital bed and I talk to ahn and everything. He say mommy I strong; nothing noh happen to me, dah only mi foot I noh di feel. And ih tell me noh cry because if I cry, he wah cry. But ih say ih strong and he love me. Ih say, kiss me pan ih forehead and we walk out and thing and dah it right there. I noh know if ih know who kill ahn, I noh know nothing else.”

Duane Moody

“So he was inside the house when the gunman came?”

Lafaye Lewis

“Ih mi deh inside with ih two lee bredda dehn. And apparently dehn say that the gunman stomp open my door and right deh dehn shot up ahn cause ih mi di sit down right pan the floor di play the YouTube on the TV.”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Eastern Division

“He was at his home at Partridge Street Extension when somebody barged into the house and fired several shots at his direction. Unfortunately he passed away early on Saturday morning.”

Williams was released from police custody less than an hour before his murder. His mother, Lafaye Lewis says that he had been detained for forty-eight hours. On Wednesday, Williams was captured during an altercation on Albert Street, for which a video posted on social media, shows Williams being attacked. That incident was reportedly over the robbery of a chain. But police say that he was detained after his name was called in other incidents.

“Peto, I wah come fi yo eleven o’clock cause yo di get release eleven, but apparently dehn let ahn go before eleven. So I mi deh dah one ah my friend di sit down di wait fi eleven. So I gone back dah my friend fi say my son done lef; ih gone home.”

Duane Moody

“Earlier in the week, he was involved in this fight that was captured and placed on social media. Do you think that maybe that may have triggered this kinda act against him?”

Lafaye Lewis

“I noh want believe so, but it could be too because the words dehn weh ih say when ih reach home that dehn di follow ahn and somebody ina di vehicle say bwai you dah noh the young bwai offa di chain thing dehn. But me noh know if dah true. I noh know how it is. I noh know how it gone or nothing, but the whole a Belize di say dah chain he gone rob. My son noh gone rob no chain cause my son noh need fi rob.”

Alejandro Cowo

Andrea Polanco

“Sir is that incident connected to some theft of a gold chain?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“Not that we know.”

Andrea Polanco

“So you said that you’ve dealt with him several times over the past two weeks. Anything of this nature with respect to an attack on his life?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“It is due to other incidents that his name was being called out.”

It is suspected that his murder was as a result of ongoing gang rivalry.

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“We suspect that it’s an ongoing dispute between rival groups in the city.”

Andrea Polanco

“Are there any suspects at this time?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“Yes, two persons are presently in custody for that investigation.”

Reporter

“Is Mister Williams someone who police have encountered before, sir?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“Yes, we have had several dealings with Mister Williams over the past two weeks.”

Lafaye Lewis

“Maybe dah just wah dispute weh happen between maybe gang or anything cause he mi associated with one gang and then the young man mussi mi associated with another gang so I can’t really tell unu weh happen with that.”
