Exercise Proper Hand Hygiene by Washing Properly

Russell Manzanero

One of the most asked questions is how to protect yourself against the alarming spread of c COVID-19. One of highly recommended suggestions from doctors is a common-sense approach. Epidemiologist, Doctor Russell Manzanero emphasizes the need for hygienic practices such as the frequent washing of hands.  The measures, he says, are similar to those taken when address the influenza virus.

Dr. Russell Manzanero, Epidemiologist, Ministry of Health

“As any measures that are taken with influenza this the same measure that we are to apply regardless in the public.  This is what we’ve been stressing from the very beginning and I believe, in our team, the discussions we‘ve had with the health regions is that the essential of hand washing, the cough etiquette.  Your hands are actually the source of many infections, it‘s not only for the respiratory illnesses but also those further to any gastro or other infections that might allude to the hand hygiene.  So I guess that‘s what we‘re trying to push forward, I mean this in itself as DHS has mentioned, we‘re not to be alarmed but this is something that on our own we‘re supposed to take our own measures, our own responsibilities.  So even from the very start when we started channeling all that information on prevention, what it is for proper hand washing, I mean it‘s not only washing your hands but there is a way or method how to wash.  The use of soaps, I know individuals who are trying to scramble for all the hand sanitizers.  You can‘t basically no sanitizers right now.  But what we‘re trying to enforce is the adequate hand washing.  If at schools we can implement those messages, even with the children, this is the fact.  Even with our children they are the ones that would take that information back to the home.”
