Wooden Structure Destroyed in Act of Arson

Police and the Fire Departments are investigating a case of arson in the Gungulung area of Lake Independence. A small wooden structure belonging to Raymond Allen was gutted over the weekend and an investigation by fire officials has determined that it was deliberately set ablaze. Station Officer Kenneth Mortis says that the fire started at the rear of the house, but an accelerant was not used. The investigation has also uncovered that there is an ongoing land dispute for which Allen had been threatened.

“When we responded we found the remains of what was a ten by ten wooden structure engulfed in flames. Our investigation determined that the structure was owned by thirty-six-year-old Raymond Allen, a construction worker of a Belize City address. Now the thing is that while the structure was owned by Raymond, he wasn’t occupying it. He would do periodic to ensure that the structure is still standing. However on that day, when he arrived on the scene it was only to be alerted that his house is on fire. We have come to the conclusion, that the fire was started out of a malicious act. We also learnt that there was some land disputes and he was being threatened before in terms of pack up his stuff and get off the property. So we have concluded that someone intentionally lit the house on fire and we are now trying to locate the individual responsible for this mischievous act.”
