Changes in Seating Arrangement on Government Side in the House

The House was convened this morning for the budget presentation for the new fiscal year that starts on April first, 2020. It was the Prime Minister’s final budget presentation, but it took backstage as the House went into rancorous debate on two other matters.  First some house-keeping…the line-up has changed dramatically on the government side.  Minister Hugo Patt now sits next to the Prime Minister as Deputy Prime Minister while the former, Patrick Faber, has moved further away. Orange Walk North Area Representative, Gaspar Vega returned to the House after a very long period of no-shows.  What prompted Vega’s return was likely a motion of no-confidence moved by the Opposition against the PM.  The other notable change involves John Saldivar, the leader-elect of the U.D.P. for seventy-two hours. Saldivar is now on the back bench, following his removal from Cabinet. Saldivar finds himself side-by-side with Vega, who left Cabinet when a scandal blew-up in respect of his son Andre, who the court ordered to return four hundred thousand dollars since he was unjustly enriched at the expense of the government and people of Belize.
