Murder on Iguana Street
There was mayhem in the City this afternoon as a number of shootings took place in the south side. At news time, it is known that one person was killed in the gun violence at the corner of Iguana Street and Central American Boulevard. At this time police are processing the scene. Earlier this afternoon, the spate of shootings started on Zericote Street in Belize City where fifty-two year old John Crawford, a Belizean barber, received a single gunshot in the left side of the cheek. Crawford is hospitalized in a stable condition. When we arrived on the scene today, a man in the area told us off-camera that the shooting happened so quickly and by the time he realized what was happening the barber was already injured:
‘When I look, me just see a man come and stand up look like he come trim and haul out a gun and shot. That dah all I see and a young bwai run. I so frighten I nuh even know what to do, yuh dig? I just feel disappointed, mien. Only one shot fired and barber nuh really injured mien because he di talk and everything. Deh young bwai need to stop and put down the gun mien; that’s all weh deh have to do.”
That shooting was followed by another on Sarstoon Street.
