Nephew Murders Uncle in Wild Belize City Shooting

Shane Budram

Shane Budram was shot and killed near his house on Wagner’s Lane in Belize City and tonight police are looking for his nephew, Raheem Budram, as the suspect in his murder. He is the sixth family member to lose his life due to gun violence. On Friday night, the uncle and nephew were hanging at Shane’s house. For some unknown reason, an argument ensued between both men with the younger man trailing his uncle down the street. As the tensions escalated, Shane made his way back to his house and this is when Raheem allegedly opened fire. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

A heated exchange between a nephew and his uncle turned deadly over the weekend when a firearm was discharged multiple times during the violent confrontation.  Forty-three-year-old Shane Budram was shot and killed on Friday night during an altercation with his brother’s son on Wagner’s Lane.  The pair was socializing with another unnamed individual when an argument ensued.

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“On Friday, February 22nd, 2020, around 10:45 p.m., police visited 18 Wagner’s Lane, Belize City, where they found the motionless body of Shane Budran.  Information revealed that Shane Budran was with family members at his yard at the address when they got into an argument and thereafter he was shot.  He was taken to the K.H.M.H. where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

A black bow adorns the entrance to Budram’s Jump Street address. This morning, relatives and friends occupied themselves by washing the area in front of the residence where the mortally wounded labourer collapsed after being shot.

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero

“We are seeking one suspect for this murder.”

Raheem Budram

“Sir, is it believed that the victim knew the shooter?”

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero

“Yes, that is the information we have, that the know each other.  They are actually family members.”

Twenty-year-old Raheem Budram is being sought by Belize City police in connection with the shooting death of his uncle.

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero

“We are trying to locate all the persons that were present there to, again, do interviews and do follow-up on the investigation.”

“Now, if I am not mistaken, the person, the nephew’s name has been called and that person has just recently been released from prison.  Do police have this information?”

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero

“We have certain information and again, we are seeking one person for this murder.”

The question of motive remains the subject of a criminal investigation.  News Five understands that Budram was pursued by his nephew along Wagner’s Lane and was subsequently shot in front of his house.  Of note is that both uncle and nephew are no strangers to the law.

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero

“At some point they were hanging out there and an argument ensued between them and that led to the shooting.”

In 2014, Shane Budram, a known street figure, had a series of run-ins with the law, following a slew of ammunition charges he had caught sometime before.  Those brushes included being charged along with four others for displaying gang insignia.  By October of that same year, Budram was again before the court after being identified as one of eight men who robbed a businessman during an attack on Wagner’s Lane.  While his mother respectfully declined an interview, she told News Five earlier today that of the thirteen children, Shane is the sixth son she will now have to bury.
